Torrevieja is now one of the most popular places for the
Golf
enthusiast. Take a walk along the promenade and then rest in one
of the many restaurants or bars. As well as some wonderful
historical monuments such as the "Modernist Casino" which dates
from the beginning of the century and has a famous hall in the mozarabic style; the "Recinto de las Eras de la Sal" an open,
air theatre.
Festivals
One of the many attractions to Torrevieja are the
variety of festivals which take place every month. Some of the
most popular events in Spain are the Carnivals in which
thousands of people join in, forming a light show of colour,
satire and good humour. The Holy Week attracts lots of people
into the streets, converting these into huge paths of colour
penance and popular religiosity. Good Friday at night is one of
the most venerated and admired festivals on the Spanish eastern
coast.
Visit in August and you'll be able to enjoy the weeklong
"Habaneras" festival - a major international music competition
which attracts a live and television audience of hundreds of
thousands of people. Las Habaneras are a celebration of the
Latin American music and rhythms brought to Torrevieja in the
19th century through the port's salt-trading links with Cuba.
Beautiful sandy beaches, Europe's biggest salt flats bursting
with bird life, historic sites and a huge variety of Spanish and
international restaurants...just a very few of the reasons to
book a holiday here.
Torrevieja used to be the home port of the largest fleet of
sailing boats in the Mediterranean and still boasts one of
Spain's best yacht clubs, with berths for 1,500 boats. In fact
the town provides first class facilities for lovers of all
sports - there are Golf courses, a flying club, a variety of
water sports and the municipal stadium with an athletics track,
sauna and covered courts for tennis and a variety of other
sports. Torrevieja also has a bull ring - still a favoured
attraction for the Spanish - a water park, fairground, theatre
and several cinemas.
